Nearly US$650,000 worth of debts has been wiped out for 200+ cancer patients by a US doctor after realizing that many of them were struggling to pay.
Dr. Omar Atiq closed the Arkansas Cancer Treatment Center last year after nearly 30 years of business.
Dr. Omar told, “So my wife and I, as a family, we thought about it and looked at forgiving all the debts. We saw that we could do it and then just went ahead and did it.”.
Ataq Dr, originally from Pakistan, founded the Arkansas Cancer Treatment Center in Pine Bluff in 1991, providing treatments including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and CAT scans. He is now a professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock.
He wrote In a Christmas greeting card to patients telling them any remaining dues would be erased.
Dr. Atiq writes: The Arkansas Cancer Treatment Clinic was proud to serve you as a patient. Although various health insurances pay most of the bills for the majority of patients, even the co-pays and deductibles can be burdensome. The Arkansas Cancer Treatment Clinic has decided to wipe out all bills owed to the Center by its patients. Happy Holidays
Dr. Omar Atiq, “We thought there was no better time to do this than during a pandemic that has devastated people’s lives, homes and businesses and all types of things,”. He said the dues owed by about 200 cancer patients totaled nearly £480,000.
Many celebrities tweeted about this:
